Application Process

The Serenbe Playhouse Apprenticeship is a rigorous one-year professional training program offering emerging theatre professionals the opportunity for complete immersion in the world of a nationally recognized Regional Theatre. Through work shifts, masterclasses, performance, observation and networking opportunities, this program is designed to assist young professionals to build a bridge from Educational Theatre to a career in Professional Theatre. Basic training and experience in the field of Theatre are required for consideration. The completion of a four-year degree in the Arts or Theatre is preferred, although not a requirement to apply.

APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2017-2018 APPRENTICESHIP ARE NOW OPEN

Step One: Apply

Each candidate must submit the following once the application process opens:

  • Headshot (or recent photo for SM/Technical Candidates)
  • Resume
  • Cover Letter/Personal Statement
  • 2 Letters of Reference
  • Response to 1 Essay Question
  • Supplemental Qualification Materials:
    • ACTORS: Audition Video (or in person audition – see Apply page for details)
    • SM/TECH: Statement of Purpose (see Apply page for details)

Step Two: Interview (Invitation Only)

Once we have reviewed your Submission we will either invite you to Interview or release you from consideration. If invited to Interview, the head of the Apprentice Program will schedule a Phone or Video Chat within one month of receiving your submission.

Step Three: In-Person Callback (Invitation Only)

ACTING APPRENTICESHIPS:

Those actors in final consideration for the program will be invited to an in-person group callback in Serenbe with the Artistic Director, Casting Associate and Director of Education at Serenbe Playhouse. This Callback will be held the weekend of April 1st and 2nd, 2017.

The Callback day will consist of a group Warm-Up, Masterclass style coaching of your audition package, a cold read from the upcoming season, and a group conversation with staff members and former Apprentices. All those invited to in-person callbacks will also receive two complimentary tickets to our production of GREASE, as we believe seeing what we do in person is integral to understanding the vision of Serenbe Playhouse. From these in-person Auditions, 6 Actors will be selected to join us for the 2017-2018 Apprenticeship.

Transportation and Housing for in-person callbacks are the responsibility of the candidate. If invited to an in-person callback and you are unable to attend, you will be asked to submit your reason for absence and pending approval, alternate arrangements will be made.

 

STAGE MANAGEMENT/TECHNICAL THEATRE APPRENTICESHIPS:

Those Stage Management and Technical Theatre Apprentice candidates in final consideration for the program will be invited to an in-person Interview in Serenbe with the Artistic Director, Casting Associate and Director of Education at Serenbe Playhouse. For this Interview, the applicant should bring a prompt book, production book, and/or portfolio of her/his work. The interview day will consist of a portfolio/work product review and group conversation with staff members and former Apprentices.  This Final Interview will be the weekend of April 1st and 2nd, 2017.

All those invited to in-person Interviews will also receive two complimentary tickets to our Production of GREASE, as we believe seeing what we do in person is integral to understanding the vision of Serenbe Playhouse. From these in-person Interviews, 2 SM/Technical Candidates will be selected to join us for the 2017-2018 Apprenticeship.

Post Application Process

Following the in-person interview/callback you will receive an offer to join our 2017-2018 Apprentice Company or a Release from Consideration. Offers or releases will be made within a month of the final Company call-back date.
