  • Flotsam & Jetsam. Males. 20s-30s. Eels and Ursula’s lackeys. Oily and spineless, they will say anything you want or need to hear.

Casting Breakdown:

  • Irina Nikolayevna Arkadina. Female. An ageless star with irresistible charisma. She can do anything and everything. Highly intelligent, although she may sometimes be perceived as flighty for her enjoyment of the finer things in life. A brilliant comedian who can tap into the extremes of human experience: from selfless martyrdom to blind desire.
  • Konstantin Gavrilovich Treplev. Male/Female. 20s. Arkadina’s child, desperately trying to get out of her shadow but also earn her respect. This character is rebellious, bright, and talented, but deeply tormented – Konstantin would rather die than live a mediocre life. Razkolnikov from Crime and Punishment.
  • Masha. 20s-30s. Male. A charismatic drag queen whose suffering is of Grecian proportions, a Medea, always misunderstood in her community. Paulina and Dorn’s child, who inherited the worst from her parents: her mother’s obsession with love and her father’s cool detachment with the world. Singer.
  • Sorin. Male. 40s-80s. A gentle man with a sick heart. Sorin’s problem is not that he is old; it is that he feels that he has lived his life in vain, unfulfilled. His heart is rotting inside his chest because he has much kindness that has sat in it unused; he is sought by all, truly seen by none.
  • Boris Alexeyevich Trigorin. Male. 20s-40s. A popular writer, and Arkadina’s trophy boyfriend, who’s a bit of a romanticized psychopath – he has a morbid interest in human drama and gently but firmly nudges each soul in this world to the breaking point. His dilemma is to stay on the outside writing and watching, or to participate and get swallowed up by emotion.
  • Semyon Semyonovich Medvedenko. Male/Female. 20s. The proletarian hero, a revolutionary and activist in the making. Medvedenko is extremely socially conscious and knows life and its hardships more deeply than anyone else in the play but nobody would listen. A poet, rapper or singer, someone who’s not easy to ignore. Desperately in love with Masha. Bilingual actors encouraged to audition (although it’s not a requirement).
  • Yakov & His Posse. Male/Female. 20s. The fanatics, the groupies, who can be seen at all important theatrical events. Voyeuristic creatures who will, over the course of the play, almost entirely lose their human agency. Dancers and musicians.

** The role of Nina Mikhailovna Zarechnaya has been cast. **

PLEASE NOTE that this production will be performed fully surrounded by water. If auditioning, please be comfortable getting wet and making a splash.
